Christian Formation

Helping those young and old grow in their relationship with Christ is a rewarding way to serve at St. Mark’s. Whether you are leading Children’s Chapel or planning a weekend retreat, we hope you will find fulfillment in one of the below opportunities to work with adults, children or youth.

Adults

Men’s Retreat
Help plan, recruit, host and/or pray for these weekend-long retreats which take place off campus.

Women’s Retreat
Help plan, recruit, host and/or pray for these weekend-long retreats which take place off campus.

Wednesdays in Lent
Help plan and lead a 1-hour adult or children’s program for this series or help cook a light soup and salad dinner offered before the program.

St. Mark’s Teaching Series
Help plan and host this annual weekend event to draw well-recognized preachers and theologians to St. Mark’s.

Children

Children’s Chapel Leaders
Conduct a short children’s worship service for potty-trained 3 year-olds to 2nd grade during Sunday services.

Sunday School Teachers
Work with either 3 & 4 year olds, kindergarten & first graders or second & third graders. Teachers implement a weekly set curriculum that requires minimal preparation. Other roles for volunteers might include leading games, helping with crafts, facilitating discussions, set-up and clean-up classroom space, snack/refreshment preparation and distribution, praying for the children. Time Commitment: Once or twice a month for 8 months, September to May, during the Sunday school hour.

Boys and Girls Breakfast Clubs
Help lead these fun clubs of 4th and 5th graders designed to encourage them to apply lessons learned from the Bible into daily life. These clubs also participate in service projects, field trips and parties. Breakfast Clubs occur from 10-10:50 a.m. during the school year (September – May).

Vacation Bible School
Volunteer for this weeklong event in July and engage with children from potty-trained 3’s through rising 4th grade.

Youth

Confirmation
Help lead table discussion or chaperone a service project with the confirmands.
10– 10:50 a.m., Sundays September – April

Junior and Senior High Sunday School
Help lead a fun, discussion-filled class that examines music, movies, news, and current events through a Biblical lens.

Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) Leaders
EYC volunteers attend youth group meetings. Roles for volunteers might include leading games, leading worship, facilitating discussion, set-up, clean-up, praying for the youth and/or helping with refreshments. Service time is approximately one and a half hours on Sunday evenings during the school year (monthly), plus prep time if needed.

EYC Mission Trips – Junior and Senior High
Adult leaders accompany youth as they travel to serve communities in the regional, national and international areas.
