"The Salt of the Earth" - 11 a.m. Traditional Eucharist

Feb 8, 2026    The Rev. Charlie Holt

Rev. Charlie Holt teaches on Jesus’ call for His followers to be the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world,” grounding the imagery in the geography and history of the Dead Sea—a place where salt was potent, valuable, and easily diluted. He explains that Christian witness loses its impact when believers retreat from culture or allow themselves to be shaped more by politics, society, and comfort than by the truth of Scripture. Through stories from ministry, cultural analysis, and an interview with missionary Gloria Roy, Holt emphasizes that authentic discipleship requires both distinctiveness and visibility: engaging the world without becoming like it. The sermon challenges listeners to stay spiritually “salty,” shine with the character of Christ, and allow the Word of God to form them into people who bring preservation, healing, and light wherever they go.
