Scripture works like a plumb line, showing where our lives need to be brought into line with the humility and selflessness of Jesus. The great hymn of Philippians 2 contrasts the world's hunger for recognition with Christ, who emptied himself, took the form of a servant and humbled himself to the cross. True greatness lies on that downward path of service, as God works in surrendered lives.
