“You’re Already There” - 5pm The River Service

Aug 9, 2026    The Rev. Billy Cerveny

This sermon teaches that salvation and righteousness are not achieved through human effort, religious performance, or self-improvement, but are received entirely by faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work. Using the image of a whale tangled in fishing nets, it illustrates how believers often exhaust themselves trying to escape shame, bad habits, and inadequacy when Christ has already come to rescue them and bring them into right standing with God. The message explains the “great exchange” of the gospel: Jesus takes our sin and condemnation upon Himself, while His perfect righteousness is credited to those who trust in Him. Ultimately, the sermon encourages Christians to stop striving to earn access to a place Christ has already given them and instead grow in the freedom, identity, and righteousness they already possess in Him.
