First John 3:8 says the Son of God appeared to destroy the works of the devil, and this session rereads the gospels through that lens. As humanity's representative, Jesus retraces the steps where Adam and Israel failed: resisting the tempter in the wilderness, binding the strong man, freeing the Gerasene man called Legion, sending out the seventy-two, and disarming the powers at the cross.
